Get Real With You

Get Real With You
by David Brenneman

Was reading yesterday a post from a Christian group on Facebook that eluded to taking a serious look at your calendar to see just how much of your time is truly spent walking with Jesus.

Go ahead all you calendar guru's. Be intentional for this moment and make entries for this last week for all the times and durations that you spent with God in your Bible, those times when you stopped to pray or just took the time to pray while on the move.

Now be sure to put in for this week we are filling up just what else you were doing. Work, chores, etc.

Put in those things you did instead of spending time with Jesus. Ouch that one could hurt. Fill it all in for this one week we are speaking of.

How much time was wasted rather than invested in your walk with Jesus?

Now, for those who are honest and even those who aren't, when we stand before Jesus to give an account of our lives before Him...every single moment will be accounted for. All our time living will be known to us. It's quite possible that we might be reviewing it all as it's tried by the fire of His Truth. No doubt tears are going to flow.

We can do something about all of this starting right now. We cannot relive the past to do it over but starting right here right now we can be intentional about living for Jesus in all that we do.

We should be in His gym doing the workout He requires of us. Denying self whenever we are awake and living for Jesus. Taking up our own cross and following Him with our everything. Trusting God with Today and leaving all the consequences to Him.

This has to start somewhere with you and I and the sooner the better.

Yes it's going to mean saying no to things we have gone after in life that we, for that moment, enjoyed.

But what Jesus brings to the table far surpasses whatever we thought we would enjoy from those things that are here today and gone tomorrow.

Life here, once we came to Christ for salvation, isn't ours to live for us anymore. We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works that we might walk in them. That's what the Bible says.

We unknowingly desensitize ourselves to the very powerful possibilities in Christ by being flippant about meeting with Jesus, let alone with others in Christ. Jesus said that wherever two or three people are gathered together in His Name there He is in their midst. Jesus is there with us when we're there for Him!

Think about that. Whenever you regularly meet with others in Christ because of Him He's there.

Add to it those not in Christ, should your time together regularly be observed, notice. They can tell by your behavior, your emotions, whether your life in Christ is really all that important to you.

Your intentional absence, they notice that as well.

If that light of Jesus Christ isn't where it's supposed to be then the world, who's watching, notices.

Yes you have plans for your life. Be sure that they don't take the place of His plan for you in your life.

Your calendar will reflect your life, good or bad.

Any 'good' thing that we cling to that's taking the place of our commitments to our life in Christ has to go. Take up your own cross and follow Me He says to you and I.

His Plan vs Your Plans

His Plan vs Your Plans
by David Brenneman

Many plans are in a man's heart, but
the counsel of the Lord will stand
Proverbs 19:21.

As diligently as you plan, the future is a puzzle to all but God. Your supreme purpose, then, is to walk in harmony with the Savior by employing essential disciplines:
First, lay aside every encumbrance and sin. Willful disobedience and unproductive habits will hinder your spiritual growth. Ask the Father to help you rid yourself of these unnecessary weights.
Next, concentrate on endurance. Do not let disappointments or setbacks take you out of the race. Accept that they, too, are part
of the course God has divinely planned for you.
Most of all, focus on Jesus. Turn away from all that distracts you from Him. Cast your burdens on Him and look in steadfast faith to Him. Seek His face daily through personal prayer and sustained time in His Word.
A trusting, faithful, unwavering devotion to Christ will lighten
your load, equip you to handle the tough times, and guide you in
His will every day of your life, regardless of what happens. And He will take you further than you could ever have imagined or planned on your own.

Jesus, my life is in Your hands. Lead me me in Your perfect will. Amen. - Trusting God with Today, Dr. Charles Stanley.

We often make plans for the day, the week, the year and in some cases years down the road. Electronic calendars on devices are quite often fully replacing paper ones because the changes are so frequent and the sheer number of things is overwhelming otherwise.

Then, as well, there's those who aren't on a calendar at all. Retired and aren't putting a priority on most anything.

I really connected this verse to my calendar on my phone that I now also have as an electronic wall calendar. There is both a lot going on and yet really nothing. It's not like we either go anywhere special these days or are invited anywhere. So in some ways it's easier to be ready when God changes our plans.

It's also possible to get too introspective about all that's there in our calendars. I could easily clog it more by putting in more things that aren't the one-off's of when bills need paid.

Many families are stressed because of all that's in their calendars. Plans for this plans for that.

When I consider it all...there are times when an old television commercial comes to mind "Calgon take me away!" the idea behind the commercial was how you could get a peaceful respite from your stress filled day with their product.

This leads me to another passage.

“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalms 46:10.

Be still and know that He is God.

Read in the four Gospels and look for all the many times Jesus took the Disciples aside to stop n rest away from their ministry. Of how many times Jesus left them to go just be with His Father. We only see what's written in the Gospels but as John said at the end of his Gospel, much much more happened that wasn't written.

Cease striving and know that I am God.

Modernized: Cease with stressing out and know that I am God, I got your back. I have a wonderful plan for your life. Trust Me.

Breathe. I have told this to myself and countless others when trying to get them or myself to the point of remembering to be still and know that He is God.

My Dear Reader, take another quote from the world and give it a Biblical twist. Don't sweat the small stuff when in God's eyes everything is small stuff. Dr. Stanley was very adamant about the Biblical truth that God does not have problems only situations. A problem can be emotionally charged, can be over thought, a grand surprise. A situation is something that just is and with Jesus nothing was a surprise. Jesus doesn't need to sit down to figure out what to do, how to do, or when and where to do. He always sees the end from the beginning. Every variation thereof.

Breathe. Don't allow the world to dictate your calendar. Don't really let you dictate your calendar. You who are in Christ are to live by His calendar for you. Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you. Set your mind on the things that are above and not on the things that are of this world.

Lastly, be assured that the world is watching you. If you have a habit of meeting some place in His Name and then start treating it as optional the world is going to notice. If you are not showing your commitment to God's plans for you then it will be noticed. If you're not trusting in the Lord with all your heart And are indeed leaning on your own understanding the world is going to notice.

Don't let your plans push His plan aside in your life. We will give an account of our lives before Him one day and all our plans that were not His will be evident and turned to ashes.

"Commit your works to the Lord And your plans will be established." Proverbs 16:3.

"Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, and He will do it." Psalms 37:5.

"Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken." Psalms 55:22.

Take these thoughts an look at what Jesus said here:

"Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and will then repay every man according to his deeds." Matthew 16:24-27.

Is Your Lamp Under a Basket?

Is Your Lamp Under a Basket?
by David Brenneman

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16.

"And He was saying to them, “A lamp is not brought to be put under a basket, is it, or under a bed? Is it not brought to be put on the lampstand?  For nothing is hidden, except to be revealed; nor has anything been secret, but that it would come to light.  If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.” Mark 4:21-23.

For those of us who are among the saved in Christ Jesus we have a light that begs to be displayed for all the world to see.

But the statement and the question remain...is it being seen by the world?  Are we listening when the Spirit shows us that the light of Christ is being as effective as Jesus says it will be?

We have the privilege and right to participate in the plans for humanity that we see in the Scriptures.  We have it but are we shrinking away from it?

If anyone or anything is in the driver's seat of your heart and mind then you're/it/they are driving the wrong way.

We will either rejoice in Heaven when we stand before Jesus to give an account of our lives because that light of Jesus Christ was shining and we got to see its impact on humanity around those points in our lives or we will shrink back in shame at the opportunities we see we missed.

We can't have life both ways.  We can't pursue our wants and desires when they run contrary to His plan and purpose for us.

This is where denying ourselves and taking up our own cross becomes real.

The results of His light aren't our responsibility.  He takes full responsibility for the results when we obey in living that way.

Are you yet still seeking first your own understanding, your own desires, and are only trying to fit in what you think He's bringing to your mind when you can?

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you.

You can't know the far reaching effects of your obedience in letting His light shine through your life.

When even a practice of something like meeting in His Name is deprioritized the unsaved world knows it, and might even miss it.  When the light of Jesus Christ is missing from those times and places even the unsaved are aware of it.  Regardless of our intentions at the time.

The light within the Temple was never to be allowed to go out.

The Spirit of God within us must never be allowed to be hidden under a basket or at all hidden from the world around us.

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

We're to live transformed lives that the world sees and knows.

We're to strive to glorify our Father in Heaven.  Not here yet still for our own personal interests.

So be rid of whatever form your basket takes that's keeping the light of Jesus Christ from the world around you. Give Heaven something to celebrate now and Jesus and you to celebrate when you stand before Jesus to give an account of your life.

Always remember the world is watching only because the displayed light of Jesus Christ penitrates everything wherever its displayed.

Don't give the world an excuse not to come to Christ for salvation.

Because He...Not Because I

Because He...Not Because I
by David Brenneman

It was and still is a very sad realization to hear from a friend that in response to why should they be allowed into Jesus's Heaven that they don't consider themselves to be a Christian, but have read the Bible from cover to cover and only look at it as a guide to good living.
They look to the Bible as a help to live better but really don't believe it to be what it is.

My Dear Reader as I told him...when, not if, you are asked by Jesus as to why you should be allowed into His Heaven you begin with anything that starts with "Because I..." you're already giving the wrong answer.

It is "because He..." the begins the right answer.

For those of us who are among the saved in Christ Jesus...we know it's only because of Jesus, His life He lived, the Word He taught, the death He died, the rising from the dead 3 days later this is where its all at. Because He...He came to Earth as the Holy Son of God, attested to by both the Spirit and the Father.  Because He lived a sinless life. Because He suffered and died in our place.  Because He was cruelly tortured in our place. Because He paid the price for our sins that we cannot pay. Because He arose from the dead 3 days later as both King of kings and Lord of Lords. The only begotten Son of God full of grace and truth.

Because of Him. Because He so loved the World that the Father gave His only Son that whosoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life.

All because and only because He first loved us.

What does it take to come to Christ?

"But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart”—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.  For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”  For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call on Him; for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.” Romans 10:8-13.

Don't guess...know for sure that you are saved.  Text "Jesus" to 1-330-264-9459. Someone there will certainly show you how to know for sure that Jesus is the forgiver of your sins and the leader of your life.

There's a day fixed by the Father’s own authority that Jesus is going to return for His Church, for all those saved in His Name.  We don't know when other than we are told in the Scriptures to be ready for that day.

It's going to happen as assuredly as His coming, living, dying and rising from the dead had been.

What will you answer?

Be Still, Knowing What He Makes of Us

Being Still, Knowing What He Makes of Us
by David Brenneman

Too often we on someone or something external to change us.
We blame our spouses for not fulfilling us emotionally, our churches or pastors for fulfilling us spiritually, or our jobs for not fulfilling our sense of purpose. But the blame game only delays the inevitable if we're serious about overcoming our disease and having healthy, dynamic souls. It's time to take responsibility for our own growth. If you have to move one inch from where you are right now to be happy, you'll never be happy.
Because wherever you go, there your discontented self will be. It's not about what's on the outside; it's what's on the inside. The antidote to the motion sickness of our souls is stillne, the ancient art of just being still, Does the caterpillar climb into the chrysalis and work really hard at becoming a butterfly? No, the caterpillar becomes motionless, and the transformation
takes place.

Spiritual growth and transformation will never occur in your life until you finaly get still, until you Stop moving. Paul reminds us to "fix your attention on God" (Romans 12:2, MSG). You can't fix your attention on God while juggling. Psalm 46:10 says, Be still, and know that I am God." If we get still before God, we become transformed. Consider the well-known verses from Psalm 23: "He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the
sill waters. He restores my soul" (verses 2-3, NkJv). Motion and commotion steal the soul, but stillness restores the soul.
- One Month to Live, Kerry & Chris Shook.

“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalms 46:10.

"Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah." Psalms 4:4.

"He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake." Psalms 23:2-3.

There was included in that chapter where I quoted from "One Month to Live" a story of a little boy who thought he was helping a caterpillar become a butterfly by opening up the chrysalis it was in only to watch it die.

We need to trust the process of what the Spirit is doing in our live, obey at all times and be still before Him with whom we have to do.

Being still before God, even as this book says it, is increasingly difficult these days. Interruption is a microsecond away.

Probably while reading this you got notifications of this or that. Someone speaks up n gets your attention. You hear a noise around you somewhere.

They recommend in this chapter as well as many many Godly men from the foundation of the Church til now: find a place where you can be alone with God. Be alone with Jesus.

We don't HAVE to stay busy. We don't HAVE to go here or there.

We DO have to believe the Word of God when it teaches us something about being still before God.

Our days are going to come one after another until either God calls us home or the Rapture of the Church occurs.

We are transformed as Paul wrote in Romans 12 when we're remembering to obey the Word of God and it changes our way of thinking, our way of life.

Find a place to be still before God.
After you spend real time doing that...minutes not seconds doing that...open your heart up n pray. Talk about your life n the things in it. Share your joys and the pains of your day. Give thanks for His getting you through all of it. Be sure to tell Him that you love Him.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6.

Your All

Your All

by David Brenneman

Since God is for those who are in Christ...are you for what He's got in mind for you?

Some have this idea that their salvation in Christ is just a golden ticket to get into Heaven's door. That they'll live their lives with that in their hip pocket n go on about living 'better'.

Some have this idea that they can choose just as well as God for what they want to do with their life.

Some have this idea that the good that happens to them is something they deserve.

Some think that it's going to be enough to just slip into Heaven without doing anything for obedience to God's Word.

These are certainly misconceptions and only have their roots in either the sin nature of these people or within the thoughts of Satan and his minions.

It's rather disturbing to see flavors of these thoughts in people who actually do go to Church. They go, listen to the sermon, an leave for the week not having thought again about Jesus until the following Sunday.

Still others treat what the Jesus commanded as optional. That He'll "understand" when they stand before Him. That they'll be ok.

How seriously should a Believer take their new life in Christ after being saved by Jesus?

The answer is right in all 4 Gospels...Jesus refused to let anyone or anything keep Him from completing the task set before Him...the cross. He was never persuaded to go some other way, some other path. Satan's temptations, of which we have only 3 recorded, show that temptation was among the highest of his priorities with Jesus.

Jesus took His life 100% seriously in living for His Father. He is to be our example. The model of that runner who's running the race set before him or her. He wouldn't let personal things get in the way. Would not let things of this world get in His way. Would always point people to a life of obedience to God's Word. A life of commitment to that obedience in Christ.

So how much of a Believer's life should be lived for Him? All of it.

Without excuse or exceptions.

As a popular song asks "is your all on the altar?"

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm." Ephesians 6:12-13.

By coming to Christ for salvation all who are saved have targets on them by these rulers, powers, world forces of wickedness.

In other words this race set before you is going to need you on your game for reaching that prize at the end of your life. Going to mean exactly what Jesus said of denying yourself, taking up your own cross and following Jesus.

For a time the "what would Jesus do" craze was popular...and it wasn't wrong to consider that question. The answer is more than living in the character of Christ, it's living in the character of Christ and taking up our own cross and following Jesus. Denying self whenever we step out into life and living for Jesus in all that we do.

Is your all on the altar?

Are you sugar coating what you are doing in your life to make it sound like you're all in for Jesus but you really aren't?

I highly recommend getting on your knees and recommitting your whole life to Jesus again and fully seek first His kingdom and His righteousness. It's going to mean hard choices and likely giving up some things.

But those things we give up won't matter when we stand before Jesus to give an account of our lives.

Think hard about that.

Direction with Confusing People

Direction with Confusing People
by David Brenneman

There's likely going to be times we're confused about people. I know! Where would someone get such an interesting idea!

Part of that thought comes from my journal, the rest is from the book of Job where my reading the Old Testament in a year has me.

Earlier this year I took time for a special study on the book of Job. It helped but was still left with questions. One of which is along the lines of: since these so-called friends of Job's weren't dispensers of good advice, why include this in the Scriptures? Then I look at conversations that have taken place and I realistically wonder why I was listening to whom I was. Or even those conversations in my mind that I am unsure of concerning saying them out loud.

Had someone in my life take my head off in a text because I didn't respond to a text that was sent asking a question the night before.

More baffling is that I had known that I hadn't done anything wrong but was prodded into both apologizing and asking for forgiveness. The person should have known better. What I wrote in my journal was "Why are you mad at me for something that God's obviously convicting you of?".

We are easily confused by the behavior of other's. This has been going on since Adam and Eve.

In my life today there's much confusion concerning other Believers in my life. It's an odd perspective possibly but at least the unbelieving in my life have a reason for their behavior.

"Where there is no guidance the people fall, But in abundance of counselors there is victory." Proverbs 11:14.

This was often quoted to me by the one who tried to say what they did in anger in that text.

We often try to deflect the conviction of the Spirit of God in us towards other people or situations.

We also often put thoughts of what rewards we feel we deserve and won't budge on giving up ahead of the work of God we're here to be doing. I have both unfortunately seen this and have unfortunately done this.

We can also be susceptible to the words of the enemy of God and not recognize it as such because of where it comes from.

We could also allow past hurts to cause us to navigate life without seeking God but rather reacting based on that past incident instead.

There's many reasons why people confuse us. I am confused as to why more Believers aren't striving more for committed fellowship and study of God's Word than I see. They see meeting as optional. This was never a thought that crossed the minds of those in the early Church.

Where I try to go with my confusing thoughts on people is to Jesus. Praying for understanding. What I said here earlier concerning what was written in my journal I never said out loud to this person. That thought I wrote came to me after prayer. I was evidently hitting close to the mark of their choices in life that were in reality taking them away from the path of life that God originally intended for them. What they do now they're convinced that is their calling. Only God knows.

Confusing people are just a part of our lives. Jesus never was because of who He is. Always saw right through everyone. Still does in fact.

We would do well to look in the mirror an realize that He sees us as we are and not as we put on a show to be for ourselves and others.

God is not a God of confusion.

Life with that person has never been the same. While once they were one of the closest in my life, time and distance took their toll as well as this incident from my perspective.

Others in my life now confuse me and all that remains for me to do is pray for them because my convictions aren't going to budge of what the Spirit has taught me is right.

In the end we all must give an account of our lives before Him with whom we have to do. The truth of our lives will either bring glory to God or outright shame because the roots of our choices weren't God honoring no matter how we convinced ourselves they were.

I observe people n pray for people. I can't explain many people but I can do my best to point them to Jesus by my way of life, by my convictions in the Lord, by my words and actions.

This includes praying for those who persecute you. Those who rip into you when you've done nothing wrong. Bring them to Jesus in prayer.

Always bring people to Jesus in prayer. He always knows what to do concerning them. Trust Him with what He directs you to be doing, saying and thinking.

Something Bothers You...

Something Bothers You...
by David Brenneman

"Repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord."
ACTS 3:19.

If God has put His finger on something in your life convicting
you of some sin, relationship, or ungodly attitude-He will not
leave you alone until you deal with it. There's no way you can make
the Lord forget it by trying to convince Him that something else is more important. His main concern is that you repent
So examine your life: what about you is there that displeases God? You know what it is because His Holy Spirit brings it to mind. You may feel tempted to explain it away, but don't. In order to continue having a living, vibrant, intimate relationship with Jesus, you will have to address it. You cannot substitute anything for obedience. You may think that more Bible study or service at church will make the Lord forget about this rebellious area of your life, but He doesn't work that way.
So don't make any more excuses. Confess your sin and repent. Once you obey Him, you can stop worrying, fretting, and being
anxious. Yes, it may be painful at first, but God will help you through it. He will cleanse you, and refreshing will surely follow.

Jesus, I confess my sin, Teach me how to repent so I can be
pleasing to You, Amen.
-Trusting God with Today, Dr. Charles Stanley.

Just the opposite is true,

We all have things that are bothering us. Some are real, others are either the machinations of our minds or the minds of others. Still others, and as followers of Jesus Christ we absolutely need to take this seriously, are the work of the devil and his minions. Their work but permitted by the Spirit of God to mold us and teach us in our sanctification in Christ.

We can be drawn into things we perceive as good and wholesome. Yet what it will require is sacrifices of things that God is doing in your life today and the lives of those you impact, both directly and indirectly.

We can go down a path that's not good that starts with a negative emotion and the next thing we know is there's whole made-up scenarios running through our minds like a bad daytime soap opera.

Add to this are those things that we're getting the elbow from God that He says needs dealt with. You know very well what I'm talking about. Those things that we don't see any problems with but when we're honest with what the Word of God says we know we shouldn't.

We even try to convince ourselves that since it's nothing big in our eyes that we'll just keep on doing, thinking or speaking without remorse.

But as followers of Jesus Christ, what would Jesus tell you if you were among the 12 who were following Him about these things?

Would you honestly tell Him that it's no big deal, that it's ok? I think not.

We're not always going to admit when we know that the Spirit is prompting change in our lives.

We know but we're hoping He gives up n goes on to some other subject.

But, my Dear Reader, the Spirit wouldn't be the Spirit if He left you in this condition. Jesus said that after He goes that another like Himself, would come. The Greek He's called the Paraclete, another of the same kind as Jesus. He would be our Helper, who would teach us all things.

We're needing to pay attention in class. We're to study what He says to be studying. Completing assignments as He gives them. Living a life that shows Jesus to the world.

We can't give ourselves fully to this until we let go of, remove, destroy even, whatever the Spirit says is in our way towards our sanctification.

Confessing is one thing, repentance is something else. You confess to speeding to the Officer. You repent by staying mindful of your speed from there on out.

The worst thing we do to ourselves is argue with the Spirit about what He's doing in our lives. I believe this is what the Scriptures mean by grieving the Spirit. The Spirit is working out God's will for us n we aren't taking that seriously enough.

Do we really want what God wants for us? If we do then we need to fully embrace that we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works that we might walk in them. Which is going to entail letting go of our way of thinking and doing life.

The early Church was so immensely successful because they met daily to go over the Scriptures and fellowship with each other. They didn't leave much time for the devil to gain a foothold. The Scriptures teach us to not give the devil a foothold, a chance, to disrupt our lives in Christ.

Today's world has so infected much of the professing Church to the point that most don't value what the Spirit says or means by intentional fellowship and accountability. They see nothing that needs confession or repentance. Church discipline is practically non-existent. I know of churches where it appears that the Pastor is more afraid of the backlash than what the Lord says needs to happen. I know of people who put new names on selfish desires and call it something spiritual so they don't feel bad about it. These things are nothing new. Read your New Testament. Paul, Peter, James, John etc. wrote about such things long ago. Solomon wrote long before that that there's nothing new under the sun.

Listen to the Spirit and begin down the right narrow path towards the sanctification that is yours in Christ.

Confess and repent. Admit what the Spirit is saying to you is true, don't cover it up. Repent and break away, turn from, whatever He says.

Be intentional in the training in righteousness that He's doing in your life.

What goes on in your spiritual life is all that's going to matter when you stand before Jesus to give an account of your life. All these worldly things and desires will burn up on that day they're tested by fire.

Today begin by getting right before Him and start following Him as we say we are doing.

Striving for More

Strive for More
by David Brenneman

We're often conditioned to settle for this or settle for that. We're given just enough to satiate but little more and we've been taught that that's ok and that we shouldn't push it.

The problem with this way of thinking is its left no room for striving for more.

With our walk with Jesus there should always be our striving for more.  We have a spiritual race that is set before us...therefore it shouldn't be ran like running in our world does things.

An example of really not doing something strictly for the Lord is found in the story of Gideon.  Even with his affirmations he still voiced "A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!".

"Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father." Colossians 3:17.

When we all do get to Heaven it will only be our directing our praise to the Lord and not including ourselves.

In life we also take this wrong conditioning and apply it to our prayers.  We don't bring up certain prayer requests because we judge them in ways that aren't ours to do.  The Scriptures tell us Jesus said, an since He is the Word, to bring everything to God in prayer.  Jesus taught on asking, seeking, and knocking.

We aren't here to settle.  We have a God who's ready to give us a life that's more than we could ever ask for or Imagine.  He's ready but we self-depreciate and don't ask, don't seek, don't knock.

Some people fear what they perceive are the potential ramifications of their prayer requests so they don't ask.  Sometimes yes God does give us answers to prayers we probably should have thought better about asking for.  So why would He?  To learn how to get it right in the future.  To learn how to pray an how to really look at what's driving our prayers.

Sometimes as well we are asking with wrong motives.  That's found in the Scriptures too.  We ask n don't receive because we're really wanting to spend it on our own pleasures.

Strive for more in Christ.  I am at a crossroads with this on a non-possession level.  My prayers are around seeking consistent weekly fellowship with others in Christ.  Quite often many groups take parts of the year off.  For a family with no kids and don't have the money to spend to go places this isn't good.  We cherish our times we meet and it becomes a severe drought when we aren't.  Add to this that in spite of writing as I have learned to do, I am not one to strike up a conversation with most people even if I might know them.

So I am seeking, striving, for more.  Last January my striving for more began with evening Bible studies. That's been wonderful.

Jesus in all His 3 1/2 years of teaching the Disciples never took a break from it.  In my understanding I fail to see why any church should go with the ways of the world and take breaks when Jesus didn't.

Jesus ran the race set before Him and endured it all to win the prize of salvation for all in His Name.  Never once letting the things of this world hinder His running it.

Satan's schemes cannot get Believers in Christ unsaved but he can influence them to stop giving Christ their all.  He can influence them to water-down their life in Christ.  He can convince Believers to settle for less in areas of their lives where they should not.  He can convince people that it's ok not to get together.

Matthew 18 tells us that wherever 2 or 3 are gathered together in Jesus's Name there He is in their midst.  Scripture tells us to not forsake the assembly of Believers on other occasions.

We're either going to learn God's way of running this race or choose our own way n settle for less.  We're either going to get to that point of standing before Jesus to give an account of our lives before Him showing we gave it our all, our everything, or we won't show we gave it our all, our everything..

Paul taught us to lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us in Christ that we may run the race set before us.

Don't settle for less in Christ, strive for more.

Letting It Go

Letting It Go
by David Brenneman

"Forsake your folly and live, and proceed in the way of understanding." Proverbs 9:6.

While it is comforting comforting to to know that our heavenly Father will never forsake us, it is challenging to accept that that following Jesus as our Lord means we'll have to abandon some things we cherish-relationships, goals, material possessions, and sources of earthly security that God has required we leave behind for Him.
It is sometimes very painful to forsake that to which we've become attached. It is even more difficult when our attachment is not necessarily sinful but something our Lord compels us to give up for His own good reason. The great aim of the Holy Spirit is to help us surrender to Christ in every area of our lives. Then and only then can His power flow unhindered through us into the lives of others
Is there any possession, habit, role, behavior, or relationship in your life to which Christ does not have complete access and control? Is there some area that you have reserved for yourself? Following Jesus requires that you abandon all to Him. Can you truthfully say to your Lord, "All that I am and all that I have is Yours"? I hope you can because that is true freedom.

Jesus, I surrender everything I am and all I have to You. May You be glorified in me. Amen.
- Trusting God with Today, Dr. Charles Stanley.

When we consider the words of Jesus when He said "And He was saying to them all, "If anyone shes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me." - Luke 9:23.

This particular devotional is one that many, it appears, do not wish to talk about. However, mine isn't to add to their silence but rather to add to those who do bring it up.

There's no wrong in realizing that this is a difficult subject. Note as well that this is a daily thing for all who are in Christ Jesus to partake of. This isn't for that phantom day of the week called "Someday" or it's cousin "One day".

Waiting for the "right time" to do this...you will never get to it. The choice to stop and take it up is always right before you to be doing. No matter what direction you turn, there it is. No matter how you try to cover it up, it always shines through. No matter how you try to redefine it, it's true colors always prevail. Why? Because it's exactly what you're to be doing in your life.

You may have goals, ambitions, strong desires, of what you think you want out of your life.

They will likely get in your way of taking up your cross. Go further into the New Testament and you'll find "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." Ephesians 2:10.

I have had dreams, ambitions, desires, and have had to learn that many of those are in the way of what the Spirit says that I'm here to be doing for the Kingdom of God in Christ.

There was, from my determination, nothing "wrong" with those things. However, in His wisdom, some of those grander things that crossed my mind...He said would conflict with His plans and purpose both for me and for mankind. I am, after-all, not just a writer, but an inventor.

It's good to set goals, but before they are set, check with He who is in charge. We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works that we might walk in them...that HE prepared.

You being born where you were, when you were, was no mistake. Even HOW you came out to be upon being born. My big example is myself. I was born with some of the effects of toxoplasmosis. It can cause all sorts of birth defects. Some things that have impacted me don't bother most people. However, this is how He created me and this is the body that's been made this way to glorify God. Nothing about how I was born was a mistake.

You were born with glorifying God in all that you do on His mind. His desire is for you first to come to Christ for salvation, then to live a life that exemplifies that to the world around you. To shine your light in such a way that people see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven. These good works are what was referred to in Ephesians 2:10.

It's painful to let go of things or thoughts that we 'enjoy'. But, in my case, I look back now after pursuing what it is that the Spirit has directed me to...I can see the waste. The waste of time, of money, of the superficial joy that wasn't joy at all in those things. This is on top of the waste of years saying I was living for Jesus when I wasn't really. MANY go into churches every week saying they are living for Jesus who are absolutely not. They are as selfish as the world is going into church as they are when they leave.

Letting go and letting God do what it is that He's desiring to do in each of us is what taking up our cross daily has in mind. You can't hold onto anything else but that cross because it takes your all to do so.

Your desires, your hobbies, your forms of entertainment, could very easily be incompatible with the righteous life that God desires for you. Now this is also to say that there might be elements of these that CAN be God honoring but first you need to pray and find out first. Never assume. Never attribute your definitions of what is right and true with what the Spirit say is right and true. Never base your feelings as His answer either.

Take up your own cross daily. This, I believe ties in with something else that Jesus said "So do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34.

A very popular song many decades ago was "One Day at a Time". That is how we take up our cross, one day at a time. That is how we should focus on living, one day at a time. That's how we should approach carrying our own cross, one day at a time.

Life isn't complicated when our own cross is what we're carrying and following Jesus.

Whether it's big things or small things, take them all to the Lord in prayer. Jesus also said "Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke i seasy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30.

We make it much more complicated in considering what all MIGHT be asked of us to give up.
Before you go there...find out first through prayer. Don't be worrying about the MIGHT be's.
You'll never see just what kind of things that God will do through you until you surrender to taking up your own cross daily and following Him.

I look back on things...and I don't miss anything that I've given up. The fears I had at the time were beyond unfounded.

Let go and let God do in you what you're here to be doing. Take up your own cross and follow Jesus wholeheartedly.

Develop the Practice

Develop the Practice
by David Brenneman

Habits handle the small stuff. They're automatic actions triggered by context: think flossing your teeth or grabbing keys on the way out. Practices handle the hard stuff. They are deliberate, effortful actions that require attention and judgment: working out, managing a team, writing a book, learning Spanish.

A habit is an automatic, unconscious action triggered by a cue, like brushing your teeth. A practice is a deliberate, mindful activity requiring continuous focus and a goal to improve, like playing an instrument or writing.

Key Differences Mindset: Habits run on autopilot with little thought; practices need active attention, judgment, and choice.
Effort: Habits save brain energy for simple tasks; practices demand ongoing willpower and energy. Growth: Habits maintain a routine; practices aim to build skill, depth, or mastery over time.
Triggers: Habits happen because of a specific context or prompt; practices happen because of a personal choice or commitment. Examples of both, Habits: Locking the door, putting on a seatbelt, or taking daily vitamins.
Practices: Learning a new language, meditating with awareness, or training for a sport.

"Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you." Philippians 4:8-9.

How intentional are you in living out your life in Christ? How often do you "practice what you preach"? How often are you really intentional on taking up your own cross and following Jesus?

Are your practices aligned with growing in Christ? Or are the things you're intentional about doing nothing to aligned your life with the will of God for you, which is your sanctification?

I can hear some of your excuses now, for I had the same thoughts roll off my tongue as well.

May I remind you of the very words of Jesus Christ Himself?

"Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it; but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" Matthew 16:24-26.

"And He summoned the crowd with His disciples, and said to them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his soul? For what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" Mark 8:34-37.

"And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?" Luke 9:23-25.

So here we have a point made by our Savior and Lord that's intentionally repeated three times in the Gospels.

If we're living out in practice what Jesus said for us to be doing, there should be viable evidence to support it.

I began in January of 2025 to set a practice of intentional time studying God's Word in the evenings. This I highly recommend if indeed your desire really is to grow in Christ as His will is for you. This will involve more than you think. Shut off the radio, the podcasts, the streaming videos, the television, your phone on silence. Remove distractions from this intentional time with the Spirit of God. Essentially treat this time as Holy unto the Lord. I allow only 2 people to be able to interrupt this time with Jesus in the Spirit. Outside of these...the rest of the world can wait.

As part of this practice, which as we've defined isn't merely a habit, I keep a notepad and pen for stray thoughts and ideas to be addressed later.

It's been well over a year and to be honest, I can't imagine a day without meeting Jesus in this way. Additionally, this is in addition to my practice of intentional time in the morning, both before work and on weekends before anything that happens then in order to write about whatever God brings to mind to write about for the blog.

God's blessed these practices because they indeed are the will of God for me in Christ Jesus. Just as they will be for you in Christ Jesus.

“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit, He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, so neither can you unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples. Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full." John 15:1-11.

Think about it. The parable of the talents. You are meant to not just survive this physical life but to thrive in Christ. You are meant to shine, not merely glow in Christ. You can't conceive in your wildest imagination what He's prepared for you when you're all-in with your daily practice of meeting with Jesus every day. I had other blogs before this one. The only entry of one that had any traction in views was my personal testimony concerning coming to Christ for salvation. Now that caught my attention. Then Jesus revealed to me what you read in the header information of this blog. He would give me things to write and it was upon me to do it. The viewership of this blog has passed 2 million views. That's God's work in bringing people here to find what He's given me to write in His Name. That's beyond my imagination.

You can't know what will honor Him by your commitment to having a dedicated practice of meeting with Him every day and shutting out the world. Jesus often got up early to leave the world around Him to go be with His Father. Jesus taught the Disciples to have the practice of following Him with their everything.

Turn your on again off again habit into a dedicated practice of meeting with Jesus. I promise you, my Dear Reader, that He will meet you there every single time.

Unlock your potential in Christ by allowing the Spirit of God to grow you in Christ.

In Everything

In Everything
by David Brenneman

"Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you." Philippians 4:4-9.

"Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need." Philippians 4:11-12.

Are you thankful for everything that happens in your day? Shouldn't you? Is that not what we're told is the right thing to do in the Lord?

All the good, the bad, and the ugly, give thanks. Praying concerning everything that we encounter in our days on the Earth. Essentially that's what we read here. Even if it seems mundane, repetitious, boring...all that impacts your heart and mind is important to your Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. We mean that much to Him.

Something that I have no proof concerning but rather believe because of His nature and who He is...is that in the day of the great marriage supper with Jesus is that somehow He will be able to sit with everyone at one time. All of us are that important to Him as His bride the Church. From the greatest to the least of these.

In our lives today we already mean that much to Him. He's ready to hear from all who believe at the same time because He is who He is. Nobody gets lost in the shuffle. Nobody gets forgotten. He intently listens to our prayers as if we were the only one's praying to Him.

Rejoice in the Lord always and again I say Rejoice! It actually has taken some time to get used to thanking God for everything in my day. Even for what didn't go right. Even for when I didn't get enough sleep. Even for...fill in the blank. Scripture says that in everything give thanks.

We serve a personal Savior. Who cares about us personally. That's why I believe that at the marriage supper of the Lamb He will be with each of us celebrating with each of us because we mean that much to Him.

We are highly valued because of what we have as adopted sons and daughters of God through what Jesus did on the cross to save us.

Regardless of what our days look like, He's there in the midst. Regardless of how life feels, He's there in the midst.
Regardless of what others think, He is there in the midst knowing the truth.

We have great reason to rejoice. Even with aches and pains. Even with infirmities. Even with illnesses.
God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose. Again, another reason to rejoice.

Turn from thoughts that aren't going to allow you to rejoice in the Lord.

Satan's schemes include you taking your eyes off of Jesus and onto your circumstances, your situations, your emotions, anything but on the truths of your position before your Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.

"Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear." Ephesians 4:29.

Nothing going on in your life today is insignificant to your Savior and Lord Jesus Christ. From before you were born you were on His mind. He loved you with an everlasting love.

Let's live like these truths are true in our lives today.

We Are the Apple of His Eye

We Are the Apple of His Eye
by David Brenneman

"Hear a just cause, O Lord, give heed to my cry; Give ear to my prayer, which is not from deceitful lips. Let my judgment come forth from Your presence; Let Your eyes look with equity. You have tried my heart; You have visited me by night; You have tested me and You find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress. As for the deeds of men, by the word of Your lips I have kept from the paths of the violent. My steps have held fast to Your paths. My feet have not slipped. I have called upon You, for You will answer me, O God; Incline Your ear to me, hear my speech. Wondrously show Your lovingkindness, O Savior of those who take refuge at Your right hand From those who rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of the eye; Hide me in the shadow of Your wings." Psalms 17:1-8.

It's amazing to think, but how true it is in fact, that there are Believers who aren't praying what's on their minds and hearts because they think that God is busy with everything else going on in the world and with other Believers.

My Dear Reader are you one of these? Are you at such a level of feeling inadequate that you're withholding coming into the presence of God in prayer? Are you maybe even so comfortable in your life's situations that you think that your requests would be too much?

Such thoughts of our Savior Jesus Christ cannot be farther from the truth.

Jesus Himself said to come to Him. Said to ask in His Name. To bring whatever is on our hearts and minds to Him to take care of.

We do not yet realize just how much we are the ones who are restricting or restraining the power of God in Christ Jesus for us by entertaining such thoughts!

How can the One who endured the cross for our sakes and who proved that He overwhelmingly conquered sin, death and the grave, ever be out of touch with any who called upon His Name to be saved?

Our sin nature as well as the schemes of the devil are what introduce such fallacies to our thinking and way of life.

Our life is hidden with Christ in God. Our rags were exchanged for His holy garments. Our unrighteousness was exchanged for His righteousness.

We have all the rights of adopted children to the riches of God in Christ Jesus. It matters not how big or how small those requests are that are on our hearts!

I even pray "bullet prayers" when I lose something that I need to find. I pray for things that way when others whom God has caused to cross paths with me utter.

I pray over things that we need done here at home.

I am glad that my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ has all the time in the world, so to speak, for whatever is on my mind. From the beyond joyful thoughts to those that grip my heart and I can't find the words for.

The lies of Satan and his minions as well as the lies of our sin nature should be put in perspective: they are lies, they are deception, they should be dealt with accordingly.

As the song goes "Take it to the Lord in prayer...".

Anxieties and Relief

Anxieties and Relief
by David Brenneman

"When I am afraid, Iwill þut my trust in You." PSALM 56:3.

Do you realize that you can turn your worries into something
positive? God repeatedly commands you not to fear-to
make a deliberate decision whenever you experience apprehensions. So rather than allowing anxiety to take up residence in you, you view your worries as warning flags or triggers that directly drive you to the Father's throne of grace. In this way, your trepidations can serve to grow and strengthen your faith because you consciously make the choice to trust Him in them.
You see, prayer, infused with thanksgiving, is where the battle
is fought and won against fear. When you go earnestly and boldly
to the Lord regarding your concerns the moment they arise, you
immediately focus on His power, wisdom, and sufficiency. And
because He can handle anything that comes at you, fear's hold on
you is weakened.
So when you are afraid, choose to trust in the Lord and commit yourself to Him in prayer and praise. Magnify the presence and power of God-think about what He has done in the past and what He's promised to do in the future. Not only will your anxieties flee, but the peace of God will certainly strengthen your heart.

Jesus, please remind me to turn to You as soon as fear arises
so I can immediately express my trust in You. Amen.
-Trusting God with Today, Dr. Charles Stanley.

This exerpt is actually today's reading that I will read again tonight. I was but wasn't looking for it but considering what's been happening with me in recent weeks it appears to be a God moment for me and for me to share with all of you.

I have no explanation for the high levels of anxiety that have been trying to get a grip on me. I do know that each and every time I run to my Savior in prayer to deal with it.

It's not to the point of paralysis but it can be marginally debilitating. It gets in the way of trying to get work done.

Cody Carnes had a song out called "Run to the Father". The chorus goes like this: "I run to the Father
I fall into grace
I'm done with the hiding
No reason to wait
My heart needs a surgeon
My soul needs a friend
So I'll run to the Father
Again and again
And again and again".

This, my Dear Reader, is the appropriate response to fears, to anxieties, to things that try to disturb the path of life in Christ Jesus...and it works. Time and again it works without fail.

I know, logically, that there is no reason to be gripped by anxieties or panicked thinking. Yet there's times it just happens and knowing what to do in the Lord is more than half the battle.

We do ourselves much harm by thinking that He's too busy with the universe to help us in our lowly estate.

Jesus is never too busy to run to us. He ran to us when we turned to Him for salvation and He promised to always be there throughout all our growing in Him.

We are also not defined by what frightens us. We are not defined by what might be called success either. We are defined as children of God. Adopted heirs to the throne. Ambassadors of God in Christ Jesus. We are not defined by our sin but rather by our Savior who is Christ the Lord.

My prayers concerning this repeated anxiety is to keep running to my Savior no matter what until they cease to be a problem for me.

Running to the Father in times like this or any time that the world is closing in on us or threatens to disturb what we have in Christ is always the right thing to do.

Long ago I used to have people in my life who knew me well enough to sense things in me that I wasn't seeing myself. Some have gone on to be with Jesus, others moved to other cities or just plain fell away from the relationship we had because of their life's circumstances. Moving from my hometown to another city then to the city we live in now often doesn't help much when it comes to relationships that are deep and meaningful. You do tend to be alone in a crowd for a long time, in my case many years.

But the sole constant has and always will be is my Savior Jesus Christ. So regardless of who is or isn't in my life my relationship with Jesus is what I continue to cultivate. He's always there to calm my fears. Always there to listen. His Word is always there to comfort.

Lean into that way of thinking yourself when life feels like a great mass of unknowns that hit you all at once or even a little at a time.

Run to the Father through Jesus the Son, give Him the glory great things He has done.

Open Eyes Open Heart

Open Eyes Open Heart
by David Brenneman

These are some notes and questions that were memorable enough for me to keep from several years ago.

"Jesus replied:'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment..."
What gets your attention and affection more than God?
What gets the attention in your week more than God?
What are you chasing, hoping that it will satisfy you that isn't God?
What are you going after thinking its going to provide a soul level happiness that isn't God?
How often do you prefer to choose your way instead of God's way?
What area of life are you most tempted to choose your way instead of God's way?
Jesus said that your life journey is now to surrender and go all in with with your heart your soul and your mind. Not to earn the love but because you received the love.
Not trying to get it but live out of it.

Christ followers are being baited into fighting people and not ideas.

When the culture tries to get you to fight people and not ideas don't take the fools bait.

Consider what these questions are asking you and I.

In our world where status is becoming the driving force of acceptance, making critical decisions based on that and emotional responses is becoming more the norm.

Look at the plethora of videos both real and imagined using AI to display the folly of people in just traffic incidents. Of how people aren't thinking or considering the ramifications of their thoughts, emotions and actions.

Look at what drives you. What has become the most important thing in your life? Is it still in pleasing Jesus or has that been slacking?

Are you going with the flow or are you resisting what the world is offering? Have you started putting your relationship with Jesus lower in your priorities?

No catastrophic change to your relationship with Jesus is going to happen overnight.

You'll compromise a little here, a choice there.

There's great significance in heeding the warning to stand firm in the Lord!

Our lives are not our own. This we must never forget.

The early Church was radical and different. Much different and easily much better than the Church of today. Their priorities were each other and growing in Christ. Daily they went about house to house. As a Church they were living out what the Disciples had learned of putting their all on the altar. Of giving up everything to live in obedience to God's will.

There was a video that I watched yesterday that wasn't the first of its kind on the subject for me to hear.

It was of someone asking AI if it was the devil what would it do.

The thing is while I don't know if this person in this video actually went through with this supposed conversation with AI, the things stated were actually accurate.

Of how subtlety would be the hallmark of its work. In getting people to just turn away from God even for a moment to something a little more attractive. To get people to pay more attention to this or that and to make these things more interesting.

We can't be too careful!

Indeed our lives are hidden in Christ Jesus but our hearts must stay there too!

We are needing to call things as God's Word calls things and to not redefine things to make them less offensive to ourselves.

We need to be as committed to helping others grow in Christ as the early Church did.

We need to turn away from the allure and seductive ways of the world and back to living for Jesus with all that we do.

When we use worldly excuses to not come together and it's acceptable to those in the Church then the devil has a foothold.

Jesus called the Disciples to be fully devoted followers of Him.

Not part-time. Not when they could fit it into their schedules.

Review those opening questions.
Are you comfortable with doing lesd and less with Jesus? If so, you ought to be terrified at the notion!

Are you striving to please Him in all that you do or have you decided that it was ok to do less? Again this should shock you if it's true!

Consider well what choices and decisions you made based on emotions rather than God's Word that has directed your life away from His plan and purpose for your life.

Pray that your eyes may be opened to the truth about you.

Are You Uninviting Yourself?

Are You Uninviting Yourself?
by David Brenneman

"But He said to him, “A man was giving a big dinner, and he invited many; and at the dinner hour he sent his slave to say to those who had been invited, ‘Come; for everything is ready now.’ But they all alike began to make excuses. The first one said to him, ‘I have bought a piece of land and I need to go out and look at it; please consider me excused.’ Another one said, ‘I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I am going to try them out; please consider me excused.’ Another one said, ‘I have married a wife, and for that reason I cannot come.’ And the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave, ‘Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’ And the slave said, ‘Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled. For I tell you, none of those men who were invited shall taste of my dinner.’ ” Luke 14:16-24.

"Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come. Again he sent out other slaves saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered and everything is ready; come to the wedding feast.” ’ But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own farm, another to his business, and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them. But the king was enraged, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire. Then he said to his slaves, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. Go therefore to the main highways, and as many as you find there, invite to the wedding feast.’ Those slaves went out into the streets and gathered together all they found, both evil and good; and the wedding hall was filled with dinner guests. But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes, and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”" Matthew 22:1-14.

“But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone. For the coming of the Son of Man will be just like the days of Noah. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and they did not understand until the flood came and took them all away; so will the coming of the Son of Man be. [40] Then there will be two men in the field; one will be taken and one will be left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one will be left. Therefore be on the alert, for you do not know which day your Lord is coming. But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what time of the night the thief was coming, he would have been on the alert and would not have allowed his house to be broken into. For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will." Matthew 24:36-44.

Matthew 24:37 "like the days of Noah." Jesus' emphasis here is not so much on the extreme wickedness of Noah's day (Ge 6:5), but on the people's preoccupation with mundane matters of everyday life ("eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage"--v. 38), when judgment fell suddenly. They had received warnings, in the form of Noah's preaching (2Pe 2:5)-and the ark itself, which was a testimony to the judgment that was to come. But
they were unconcerned about such matters and therefore were swept away unexpectedly in the midst of their daily activities. notes from MacArthur Study Bible

Much to take in my Dear Reader but indeed much is at stake.

Daily, millions of people are at the end of their God-given opportunity to accept the gracious offer of salvation through Jesus Christ and with their physical life ending they wake up in Hell.

Make no mistake, there are trillions and trillions and trillions or more "good" people in Hell. People whom others thought very highly of, of whom those yet alive who knew them thought they deserved to go to Heaven.

The great problem with this is that our opinion does not matter concerning who is or is not worthy of Heaven. God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit, determined back at the cross of calvary that through salvation in no other than Jesus Christ would anyone enter into Heaven.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. We read here earlier of the excuses and their kind, that people have given and are giving as to why they never accepted the invitation to come to Christ for salvation.

There are no second chances after you die.

None.

You either turn to Jesus for salvation now or reject it and pay for your sins yourself for all eternity...regardless of how good you think you are it does not and never will factor into your accessibility to Heaven.

"And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain—for He says, “At the acceptable time I listened to you, And on the day of salvation I helped you.” Behold, now is “the acceptable time,” behold, now is “the day of salvation” 2 Corinthians 6:1-2.

My Dear Reader it grieves me deeply that people who've crossed my path rejected Jesus to the point of death and did indeed die without coming to Christ for salvation.

My prayer for those who read this message is that you would indeed stop with the excuses, the fears, the worries, of what you've been lead to believe might happen to your life and just trust Jesus to save you and believe that He's got something much greater in mind for you.

You can never know until you turn to the living hope that's found only in Christ.

You can never understand the things of God without the Spirit of God that comes to live within the hearts of those who truly believe who makes understanding possible.

Don't value whatever you are pursuing or possess or desire rob you of the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ alone. These people in these Scriptures we read did this and are in excruciating painful torment in Hell. Not a single human being ever entered into Heaven nor ever will without saying yes to the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The choice is yours. There's only two options. Yes to Jesus and spending eternity with Him or rejecting Him and spending eternity in endless painful torment for all eternity.

The painful endless torment is testified to by Jesus Himself for all who rejected Him. It's a very real very intense thing.

Weeping and gnashing of teeth. Jesus testified to this over and over again. Weeping people because they thought they were good enough. Thought they weren't that bad. Thought that their good deeds counted for something. But without salvation in Christ those deeds amounted to nothing.

Gnashing of teeth. Grinding teeth in rage and fury at God. Sort of is self explanatory. People so full of themselves that they reject God's judgment regardless of the fact they cannot change it.

Coming to Christ for salvation in this here this now is as simple as what's necessary for a child to understand it.

The Father’s plan for salvation was and is infinitely simple. You just read what it is and how to obtain it. Acknowledge your sins and your need for a Savior who is Christ the Lord. Ask Him to forgive your sins and be the leader of your life.

Don't uninvite yourself.

Commitments in Christ

Commitments in Christ
by David Brenneman

This is my observation...it's never a good thing when worldly excuses become acceptable for forsaking the assembly, whether it be Sunday or days that people committed to gathering in His Name. A commitment in the Name of the Lord ought always be something we strive to accomplish with all diligence.

Granted health reasons are acceptable but otherwise every effort, when the cause is meeting in Jesus Name, should always be taken to fulfill that commitment.

Our world's seduction is to present reasons to the contrary concerning keeping our commitments in Christ.  Placing our wants, our desires, ahead of what's been directed by the Spirit of God for us to be doing.

In reading through the book of Ezra at what they had the diligence to say and do in the face of such opposition it reminded me that we take too many liberties when it comes to our sticking to our commitments in Christ.

I can, you can, easily justify within ourselves as to why we won't attend a gathering that's being done in the Name of Jesus.  Be it on Sundays or any other day of the week.  We place our plans ahead of God's plans because the world does it. That's really the bottom line.

It's never going to help us grow in Christ if there is no iron to sharpen against iron.  If there's nobody to meet with then you're left wanting in the Lord.

I know this isn't a popular consideration of the topic but this is what I have been presented with to write about this fine Saturday Morning.

Some may not think of it this but in essence we're putting our fleshy desires before the spiritual needs of ourselves and others when we prioritize these things ahead of the training in righteousness that comes from meeting with others in the Name of Jesus Christ.

To coin an older generation "It's just WRONG".

For some people these times to meet are the only times they meet with people of faith outside of Churches that they attend.  They have no other Godly influences in their lives.  They are dependent upon these for their times of iron sharpening iron as King Solomon wrote about in the book of Proverbs.

The next saddest part is how many professing Christians have no problem telling people that what they want to do is more important than meeting together.  That kind of mindset says that God's plan of training us in righteousness can wait for another day.  That our desires are more important than His plan of sanctification in our lives.  They just don't want to consider these thoughts...likely because guilt is attached to it.

Pray about your wants and desires.  Ask Jesus if indeed you're putting what you want to experience or enjoy ahead of what He's trying to accomplish in the lives of children of God.

Jesus sacrificed His wants and desires for the will of His Father in Heaven.

All of us probably spend most of our days of the week without a proper true Godly influence.  Satan's aim is reduce that time to zero and quite often we're sadly on board with this.

Think about your commitment to a life in Christ.  Are the things you pursue going to turn to ash when tried by the fire of truth when you stand before Jesus to give an account of your life?

Think about these things because you don't know how much your keeping your commitments in Christ are either going to grow yourself or others in Christ.  Your absence might be felt for days weeks or years because your input or thoughts may have been just what someone else needed to hear.

Consider well your thoughts of just how important keeping your commitments to Jesus are.

When Peter's attention was on Jesus Peter had no trouble standing on the water. When his attention was on the world...he began to sink.  You do the math.

Until tomorrow...

Jesus's Message to You

Jesus's Message to You
by David Brenneman

Was watching a clip on Facebook Reels of part of a sermon of Dr. Charles Stanley's.

In it he was talking about how often something comes upon us that is really heavy, really difficult to live with, to deal with, and our response oftentimes is to cry out to God to get us out of it. Rather than to seek God in the midst of it. We oftentimes don't care to be going through it and aren't looking to God for anything but deliverance.

The heavy things we go through, things we need to get our train of thought aclimimated to, are oftentimes brought about on purpose by God. We need that training in rethinking who's behind what happens to us.

We who are saved are children of God who need much training in righteousness to become more like Jesus Christ. Training isn't going to be all easy-peasy lessons. Training is going to have obstacles to overcome or work around.

The points of all are a message from our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ: Trust Me.

When you understand or don't understand: Trust Me.

When it feels good or doesn't: Trust Me.

When it hits you hard and it feels like you lost the ground beneath your feet: Trust Me.

What we are met with daily are things to build our trust in Jesus in order to grow us spiritually. We oftentimes miss what's going on because we keep taking off our spiritual glasses and lose sight of the Godly perspective that the Spirit is teaching us to have.

No doubt the pains, physical and or mental, truly hurt beyond words. Take those to the Lord in prayer. That's what He wants you to do.

Big things needing done in your life. This or that with the car, the home, the job. Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Truth is saying: Trust Me.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6.

When Peter stepped out of the boat his eyes were on Jesus with trust. When he took his eyes off Jesus we know what happened.

We struggle so much at times because we don't think that God really has time for us with everything else He's doing.

We serve and belong to the Creator of the Universe. The Lord of all creation. The One who conquered sin, death and the grave. The One who said that He would supply all our needs in Christ Jesus.

We downplay stress, downplay our anxiety by calling these things something else. We participate in self depreciation, self-abasement, that we aren't worthy of God's time or attention.

We listen to our sin nature in these things rather than the Spirit of God within us.

An with this we come back around to: trust Me.

I know of someone who's got a lot on their mind of things that they want to get done around the house. Acknowledging that they're not making great progress. My observation to them was its because they were trying to get their needs fulfilled themselves that weren't for them to fulfill. Take these needs to Jesus in prayer.

As Dr. Stanley said God doesn't have problems only situations. As a child of God your needs are His responsibility.

Take your situations to Him in prayer no matter what they are. We keep trying to figure out how to handle or do what He's already prepared to for.

Jesus is saying: Trust Me.

My truck situation isn't mine to worry or be concerned about. The day that it occurred while I was yet describing it, He was showing me He's got it covered. So I am not worried or concerned. Indeed His blessings continue with other needs that I have had on my mind. Sometimes even this week it was a fulfillment of a desire or two.

Go back to the lesson of Peter and keep your eyes on Jesus. Take everything to Him in prayer and don't take it back because you're not comfortable with His timing or don't see Him doing anything.

"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you." Philippians 4:6-9.
