Our Career...not what You Think

Our Career...not what You Think
by David Brenneman
"So will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it." Isaiah 55:11.

What we do for a living isn't some random occurrence in that we sit down and choose our path.  The path of our lives isn't what we think.  Proverbs 3:5-6 isn't just about Spiritual life, it's about every aspect of our lives.  We shouldn't decide on a career anymore than that of anything else that we face without a serious time of prayer with Jesus about it.

We are really going to be in for a shock when we face Jesus to give an account of our lives.  We are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works that we might walk in them is what the Bible says.  This isn't solely about the Spiritual work in us.

Many parts of my life have been confusing to me.  But one thing that's taken hold decades later is seeing God's hands in those jobs that I have had.

My Dear Reader do not try to set yourself in the world anymore than you should set yourself in the body of Christ.

The Bible says that the Spirit sets each one of us in the body of Christ as He sees fit.  1 Corinthians 12:18.

What we do during the rest of our time in the body outside of serving and growing in Christ directly impacts those first two things.  You don't want to have a career that dishonors God. You do not want a career that isn't going to do damage to your testimony in Christ Jesus.  God honoring must be central to what you do in serving God in your life in Christ.

The return of Jesus Christ is indeed near. The turmoil in the middle-east isn't coincidental.  The rise of the attention of all the world's news agencies and the lessening of the reporting of other world events isn't coincidental either.

The Bible, God's Holy Word, states that this WILL happen in those days leading up to His return.  Some may say this has been happening for centuries. True enough, however, these events of the last 70 plus years are unique.  These events have occurred after a significant prophecy came true.  The world recognized the return of Israel as a nation.  Another more recent is the recognition of Jerusalem as their capital.  Jerusalem is central to many many prophecy events.

The Rapture of the Church can be at any moment.  There's no prophecy stating that something must happen first.  It will be in the twinkling of an eye.  In a literal split second.  Millions of people will vanish.  All clothes, prosthetics, jewelry, tooth fillings, anything done by mankind will be left behind.  Millions of accidents will happen in a matter of seconds as well.

Jesus Christ said all of this in advance.  So what does my career have to do with Jesus Christ returning?

We have a job to be doing in Christ.  We aren't showing up at some random point in human history.

Jesus had us born in this here this now for His purpose in which our obedience is necessary to accomplish.  It's not just about what we do in the Church building.  Our lives in Christ are all encompassing. From when we get up until when we go to bed.  There's actually no second of our day that doesn't belong to Christ.

We don't have another book of the Bible that covers exceptions to life.

Jesus is still about the Father’s business, through all who are saved in Christ Jesus.

You are part of that in this world today if you are saved by faith alone in Christ Jesus alone.

It would only be right and God honoring to seek a career that fits into the plan of God for mankind.  It may not even be something we have ever thought possible.

The Spirit instills wisdom in each of us that is necessary to fulfill the will of God for us.  We have a purpose that's bigger than us.  We have a job to be doing that's more than we can understand.

We should not just begin our day with Jesus about what troubles us or about what we think we have on our plates, but include whatever He has in mind for us to be doing.  I have called off work before, left work before, because the timing of the prompting of the Spirit was so strong to go talk to someone.  Later I learned that those conversations changed the course of their lives in ways they hadn't seen coming.

Our days on this Earth are numbered...shouldn't we be doing the best we can with our best effort possible towards the mission that God has prepared for us?

In my job search I am not at all trying to limit God.  My life isn't my own.  Jesus said to deny ourselves, take up our own cross, and follow Him.  This must include everything in everyone's life.

What are you doing and is it honoring God?  What has He been prompting you to do and you haven't done it yet?  Don't look to the world for answers...your life is hidden in Christ.  Ask...seek...knock.
