What Master's You

What Master's You?
by David Brenneman

Not exactly a commonly thought of idea.
What has Mastery over your thoughts, your way of life?

Is it the teachings of the Spirit through the Word of God? Is it the elementary teachings of this world?  Do you mistakenly think it's you?

In Christ Jesus we are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works that we might walk in them.  For the purpose that people see our good works and glorify our Father in Heaven.

This takes preparation on our part to lay aside everything that is an encumbrance to run the race set before us.  To run the race in such a way as to win the prize.

What are you doing?

What a simple question that the placement of emphasis on any one of those particular 4 words changes what is really being asked.

WHAT are you DOING?
What ARE you doing?

The question is not if someone is , but rather who, is dominant in your thoughts for this day. It's either going to be your own thoughts, feelings, understanding, or it's going to be that of the Spirit of God.

In Deuteronomy Moses, before the second generation of the Children of Israel were to enter the Promised land, preached a very strong and long sermon to them on writing down all the things that the Lord Jesus said were to be of utmost importance to them.  To go nowhere without those.  Adding the writings to their very garments.  Writing them on their homes.  Taking the Word of God wherever they went.  So that they might not sin against God.

We can read the rest of the Old Testament.  They didn't.  All the warnings of Moses, happened.

People in throughout the centuries like to write of alternative universes.  What a world this would have been had they obeyed.   But also too, because of their inability, they too proved the Word of God, the need for mankind to have a Savior, who is Christ Jesus.

To all...and not just any new generation...begin your day with Jesus.  Don't attempt a day without Him.  He is the Good Shepherd, the Great Shepherd.  He is the lover of your soul.  The One who watches over you.  We aren't to be independent sheep. Read again of the one sheep that went astray and of the Shepherd leaving the 99 to go find it.

God's people are to grow together in Christ.

God's people are to pursue what's important to Jesus as per the Word of God.

The reality of life is that it WILL be His will being done on Earth as it is in Heaven.  Every stroke written in the Bible will have its day.  Everything written will happen as written.

We either hinder our growth in Christ or we agree to it and grow that much more.

You may not see nor fully understand it but the truth is someone calls the shots in your life.  Someone is in the driver's seat. Someone's flying the plane.  Someone is the quarterback. Someone is...the question remains is is it you or Jesus?

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body And refreshment to your bones. Proverbs 3:5-8.

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,  knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve. Colossians 3:24-25

The hymn "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus"
Oh soul are you weary and troubled.  No light in the darkness you see.

Think about your thoughts.  Where do they go?  Are you leading them towards the Savior or are they leading you away?

What are you intentional about?  Are you one who compromises in regards to living life as God intended for you?  Preferring instead to make others happy rather than to obey Christ?  That, my Dear Reader, is the wrong approach to life.

Be intentional about living life as God desires for you and see what happens.  See what burdens are lifted.  See what comes about that could only be because you did what was right in the sight of God.  See mountains reduced to rubble.
See valley's raised up.  See the darkness flee at the mention of His Name.

Watch stress and strife wash away.

I often need reminders myself.   We live in an information saturated world.  Information overload so bad that it is too much for the brain to contain.  It overflows to devices we carry or use.

The more we turn our eyes to Our Savior, the less our brains get overworked.  The less our lives are complicated.

Stuff will not satisfy that cross shaped hole in your heart.  Things you do will not satisfy a yearning that is completely Spiritual in nature.  It isn't Snickers that satisfies, but the Spirit.

What will you do differently today?
What will you choose to change?

Start small if you must in reading the Bible.  Begin in Proverbs.  Add more as your appetite grows.  If you are intentional, it will grow.  Jesus said the Spirit will teach us all things.

Who is Lord of your life?  Is it really Jesus?
You must decide.
