Our Eyes...

Our Eyes...
by David Brenneman

"I believe You gave sight to the blind
I believe that the dead came to life
I believe there were wonders and signs
And You're still the same

I believe every word that You said
I believe there are scars in Your hands
That Your goodness is good without end
And You'll never change

I will tell of Your wonders
Sing of Your grace
The God of creation knows me by name
The Lord is faithful yesterday, now, and always
Always

Your mercy is mighty
Age after age
All generations will bow down and praise
The Lord is faithful yesterday, now, and always
Always

I believe You will come in the clouds
I believe You are here even now
In Your presence I know there is power, power to save
Oh

I will tell of Your wonders
Sing of Your grace
The God of creation knows me by name
The Lord is faithful yesterday, now, and always
Always

Your mercy is mighty
Age after age
All generations will bow down and praise
The Lord is faithful yesterday, now, and always
Always

You were, You are, You always will be God
You were, You are, You always will be God
Yes, You always will be God

I will tell of Your wonders
Sing of Your grace
The God of creation knows me by name
The Lord is faithful yesterday, now, and always
Always

Your mercy is mighty
Age after age
All generations will bow down and praise
The Lord is faithful yesterday, now, and always
Always

You were, You are, You always will be God
You were, You are, You always will be God
Yes, You always will be God

Your mercy is mighty
Age after age
All generations will bow down and praise
The Lord is faithful yesterday, now, and always" - "Always" - Chris Tomlin

Certainly one of my favorites from this year.  It goes so well with another favorite.

"When all I see is the battle, You see my victory
When all I see is the mountain, You see a mountain moved
And as I walk through the shadow, Your love surrounds me
There's nothing to fear now for I am safe with You
So when I fight, I'll fight on my knees
With my hands lifted high
Oh God, the battle belongs to You
And every fear I lay at Your feet
I'll sing through the night
Oh God, the battle belongs to You
And if You are for me, who can be against me? Yeah
For Jesus, there's nothing impossible for You
When all I see are the ashes, You see the beauty
Thank You God
When all I see is a cross, God, You see the empty tomb
So when I fight, I'll fight on my knees
With my hands lifted high
Oh God, the battle belongs to You
And every fear I lay at Your feet
I'll sing through the night
Oh God, the battle belongs to You
Almighty fortress, You go before us
Nothing can stand against the power of our God
You shine in the shadow, You win every battle
Nothing can stand against the power of our God" - Battle Belongs - Phil Wickham.

Do you try at all to fill your mind with reminders of the goodness of God?  Are you willingly wasting moments that could have been spent in worship?

My Dear Reader worship does not end when a closing prayer is offered at the end of the service at Church.

Worship during the service on a Sunday is only the beginning of it for your week.  How cool would it be to put as much of it into your week as you can?  I know of several men of God who's dying was still filled with being about the Father’s business.  Would that be said of you?

Would words be spoken concerning you that reflected a life pointing people to Jesus?  Worship here is merely practice for when we stand before Jesus someday.

This world is depressing in many ways because of the blatant, relentless, advances of the enemy of God.  Satan, according to the Bible, is here to kill, steal and destroy all that Jesus holds dear.  He's going to interfere with family. Going to destroy families. He will disguise selfishness as anything but.  He will if we allow him a foot in the door.  If we give him an opportunity.  We need daily reminders through daily worship.  Satan destroys. The Spirit builds up.  If our actions are destroying families then we're aiding and abetting the enemy of God.  If our actions are not God honoring.  If protecting ourselves in our own strength is a priority then we're not relying on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Reading in Numbers this morning of Joshua and Caleb's actions and account of the promised land.  Both the 10 other spies and the Children of Israel both quickly forgot what the Lord Jesus Christ just had told them.  This was the land He was giving them.  He would make taking it possible.  They were so focused on self that they weren't listening to the Lord.

Praise and worship need to be in our lives wherever we can put them.  Right up there with bullet prayers.  Those Nehemiah prayers that completely rely on the Spirit to convey the whole message to Jesus.

Our eyes are too easy focused on what we might lose rather than what God promised would come.  The Children of Israel did the same.  We lose sight because we aren't reminded enough of the goodness of God. We lose sight because we're not looking for the work of the Spirit of God.  We lose sight because we're listening to the wrong kinds of things, be it music or videos.  We often are listening to secular music and videos and wonder why we are often struggling with positive thoughts and feelings.  We need what the Bible says.

"Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God." - Colossians 3:16.

Colossians 4:2-6 NASB "Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving; praying at the same time for us as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned; that I may make it clear in the way that I ought to proclaim it. Conduct yourselves with wisdom toward outsiders, making the most of the opportunity. Your speech must always be with grace, as though seasoned with salt, so that you will know how you should respond to each person."

Matthew 5:13-16 NASB "You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by people. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Your light must shine before people in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."

It's not about what you want or what you can get out of this world.  You who are in Christ Jesus are aliens here.  This world is not our home, we're just passing through.

Ask in prayer that your eyes would be opened to the possibilities only possible through God.  Stop pursuing what you want and ask for what God wants for you.  If you're holding onto things that are helping the enemy of God, get rid of them.
If you're not pursuing faith, hope and love,  what are you doing?
If Jesus doesn't have all of your heart and mind, why not?

When we don't have eyes to see, we will stumble.  We need more Believer's walking their talk.  Jesus said you don't hide a lamp under a basket.  We're to be lights in this world, people will know us by our lives.

How will the world see you walking daily in Christ if you're not pursuing what God says to?  How will they know you from anyone else in the world if you're taking apart what God joined together?

Ask in prayer that you have opened eyes.  Ask in prayer that you see and grasp a firm hold on more times to praise and worship God.  The more we are, the brighter the flame.

He is the vine and we are the branches.
Apart from Him we can do nothing.
