Fooling Ourselves

Fooling Ourselves
by David Brenneman

"If you say, “See, we did not know this,” Does He not consider it who weighs the hearts? And does He not know it who keeps your soul? And will He not render to man according to his work?" Proverbs 24:12.

We are the most to be pitied if we at all believe for a single moment that our thoughts and actions don't betray us in light of the truth of God in Christ Jesus.

‭"and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God." Romans 8:27
Seeking our own will to be done is possibly the greatest temptation for us. Both pre-flood and now, the greatest sinful actions were every single person doing what was right in their own eyes.

Our lives are not our own. We read that, and are to believe, that we were bought with a price. The precious blood of Jesus Christ.

We become children of God.
We become His representatives here on Earth.
We become His Disciples.
We are to work as unto the Lord Jesus.
We are, wherever it be possible, to be at peace with all men.
We are called to be salt and light in this present darkness.
We are placed in the body of Christ as the Spirit sees fit.

So are you seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness or your own?

Do you take what's holy and show disdain for it?

Do you take what you've been blessed with and waste it?

That's not just worldly possessions. You're blessed with more than just money and physical things. You are blessed each day with time.

We aren't here to create our own personal paradise.

We are in Spiritual training. We are to be shining the light of Jesus Christ to a lost, dark, world.

We are being sanctified. Our ways being transformed to His ways.

Different is what we are to be.

Micah Tyler had a song out called "Different".

I don't wanna hear anymore, teach me to listen
I don't wanna see anymore, give me a vision
That you could move this heart, to be set apart
I don't need to recognize, the man in the mirror
And I don't wanna trade Your plan, for something familiar
I can't waste a day, I can't stay the same
I wanna be different
I wanna be changed
'Til all of me is gone
And all that remains
Is a fire so bright
The whole world can see
That there's something different
So come and be different
In me
And I don't wanna spend my life, stuck in a pattern
And I don't wanna gain this world but lose what matters
And so I'm giving up, everything because
I wanna be different
I wanna be changed
'Til all of me is gone
And all that remains
Is a fire so bright
The whole world can see
That there's something different
So come and be different, oh
I know that I am far from perfect (oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
But through You, the cross still says I'm worth it (oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh-oh)
So take this beating in my heart and
Come and finish what You started
When they see me, let them see You
'Cause I just wanna be different, yeah
I wanna be different
I wanna be changed
'Til all of me is gone
And all that remains
Ooh, is a fire so bright
The whole world can see
That there's something different
So come and be different
I just wanna be different
So could You be different
In me.

Would you really pray for His will to be done in your life...and would you fully accept that for whatever that looks like?

The big deal is that matter of giving an account of your life before Jesus of all that you've done in life for Jesus.

Do you want to show that your life was lived to the full for Him or not?

We have but one life to live.
Give of your best to the Master.

Is your time wasted or cultivated?
Is the honor, love, and all that belongs to Jesus going somewhere else?

Take care that you aren't fooling yourself.
