Walk in This Way
by David Brenneman
"For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart." Jeremiah 29:11-13.
"With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints," Ephesians 6:18.
"But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead." Philippians 3:7-11.
We all walk a path whose end is eternity. We all eventually take a step whereby we step out of this physical world and into our eternal destination, beit Heaven or Hell. The choice we make concerning salvation in Christ Jesus alone determines where that eternity is to be spent.
It's more than just saying a prayer.
It's more than just a feeling coming over you.
It's a life dedicated to following Jesus after such a confession is made and a heart is turned from darkness and into the light of Jesus Christ.
It's been almost 5 full months of evening studying for me. I am at last learning what that means. There's the devotionals and the study Bibles. There's a lot of notes to read. I find it more satisfying than the useless hours spent watching television or other such nonsense.
We who are in Christ have heeded the call to come and follow Him. To become a disciple of Christ. We know what that looks like by reading our 4 Gospel accounts in the Bible. We further learn from the rest of the New Testament. But you have to be IN the Word daily to learn what living life really means.
What do you make more important than your time with Jesus?
We all can come up with excuses for not spending time with Jesus.
The world is replete with every single form of temptation to draw people away from truly walking with Jesus through their lives.
There's just something more to be had if we but seek the Lord with all our hearts.
My Dear Reader...if you have claimed the Name of Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord...only what you do in life for Him and through Him is what's going to matter when you stand before Him. The rest is going to be rubbish.
Do you not want to hear "Well done!" from Jesus?
My hope is that my life does amount to something before Jesus.
Does the true meaning of "I have decided to follow Jesus" resonate in your heart and mind?
There's going to be no explanations from you to be given on that day.
He IS Truth. He already knows your why's for everything that you did in your life. He knows everything. Every thought and intention of your heart. Every careless word spoken. Every single life-giving word that you spoke to someone in need. Every single time you chose to honor Christ when challenged to do the opposite. Every single time you spent at His feet learning more about Jesus.
Will your life show that you walked in His way and not your own?
Our lives aren't about making a slice of Heaven here on Earth. Our lives aren't about making big memories while neglecting the Word of God. When we indeed include Jesus in everything we will get those things.
"but just as it is written, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the heart of man, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so the thoughts of God no one knows except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words." 1 Corinthians 2:9-13.
We cannot fathom what good that the Lord has in mind for us unless we are intentionally walking with Jesus through our lives.
Start your day with Jesus.
Stay with Jesus during your day.
End your day with Jesus.
Jesus said to take up our own cross and follow Him. You can’t carry anything else when you do.
One day it will be our turn to step into eternity.
In that moment everything that was your priority in this physical world will no longer be important.
I have decided to follow Jesus
The world behind me the cross before me
No turning back
No turning back
