What God won't do...What You Should Do

What God won't do...What You Should Do

He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief . . . being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. ROMANS 4:20–21

One of the hardest things for us to do is wait on God. Sometimes God’s promises don’t materialize as soon as we would like, and we wonder if God has forgotten us. What God has promised He is able to perform. Think of the many wonderful promises He has made. How do we know He is able to do what He has promised? Because He is the Almighty God. As we wait for the fruition of God’s promises, we can find confidence in knowing that God is not only in charge of the event, but He is in charge of the timing. What energizes us as we wait for Him is this thought: God has never promised anything to any of us that He is not able to do, and He is faithful to do what He has promised. God will not prostitute His power to give us desires that will in the end be destructive to our walk with Him. But if we are consumed with a passion to find God’s will through His Word and His Holy Spirit, we can always be in the place where God can shower down His power upon us. Dr. David Jeremiah Morning and Evening

This phrase stuck out this morning. "God will not prostitute His power to give us desires that will in the end be destructive to our walk with Him."

How often are our prayers truly selfish in nature?  How often are they really self-centered?   Put succinctly they are wishes being made to a genie, not prayer requests to the Creator God of the Universe.

I am guilty of this throughout my life.  Guilty of crafting my prayers to Jesus.

Looking for the right words to get His attention.  Thing is every prayer gets His attention, it all depends on if it's in alignment with the Word and Will of God.
That is what determines if it's going to be responded to.

I don't always look at my words when I speak to people.  If I don't do it there, to those whom I see, it's a given that I am doing to God whom I don't see.

Thinking we know more than God is pride.
Thinking we have any given situation figured out is pride. We see what we want to see at times.  We see as it benefits ourselves.

Our walk with Jesus is paramount in our taking up our cross and following Christ.  We go through life being taught that it's about possessions and status.  About success vs failure.  About making others accept you for you.  I am reminded that for His earthly ministry, all the Disciples had was what was on their backs.  They were not carrying around a trailer from the Jerusalem U-Haul.  They weren't using a U-Store-It facility in town until the ministry was ended.  Jesus was everything.  It is a hard but simple truth to look at your life and your possessions and position.

Are you allowing things in your life that will not promote growth of your relationship with Jesus?  There's a song that was out a number of years ago that really should be heard by all.  I am reading through Leviticus at all that the Lord had commanded the people of Israel.  It really was along the lines of this song, although I doubt the writers of it made the connection.  The Lord was giving rules and such to change how the people would think in regards to Him. To see life as He wished they would see it.

Give Me Your Eyes - Brandon Heath

Looked down from a broken sky
Traced out by the city lights
My world from a mile high
Best seat in the house tonight
Touch down on the cold black-top
Hold on for the sudden stop
Breathe in the familiar shock of confusion and chaos
All those people goin' somewhere, why have I never cared?
Give me Your eyes for just one second
Give me Your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missin'
Give Your love for humanity
Give me Your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me Your eyes so I can see
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Step out on the busy street
See a girl and our eyes meet
Does her best to smile at me
To hide what's underneath
There's a man just to her right
Black suit and a bright red tie
Too ashamed to tell his wife he's out of work, he's buyin' time
All those people goin' somewhere, why have I never cared?
Give me Your eyes for just one second
Give me Your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
Give me Your love for humanity
Give me Your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me Your eyes so I can see
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
I've been there a million times
A couple million lives
Just movin' past me by
I swear, I never thought that I was wrong
But I wanna second glance
So give me a second chance
To see the way You've seen the people all along
Give me Your eyes for just one second
Give me Your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missin'
Give Your love for humanity
Give me Your arms for the broken-hearted
The ones that are far beyond my reach
Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten
Give me Your eyes so I can see
Give me Your eyes for just one second
(Lord, give me Your eyes) Give me Your eyes so I can see
Everything that I keep missing
That I keep missing (Keep missing)
Give me Your heart (Give me Your arms for the broken-hearted) for the broken-hearted
(The ones that are far beyond my reach)
Give me Your heart (Give me Your heart for the ones forgotten)
Lord, give me Your eyes (Give me Your eyes so I can see)
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

People want peace, they want prosperity. People want God to heal their land.  How can we call upon Him for that when we won't let go of sin that so easily entangles us? We won't look at life from His perspective. We won't look at our lives, the lives of others from His perspective.  We won't let go of the things of this world to reach others.   It's a very big problem in the Church.   We have introduced so much of the world into the Church to attract people, it's quite possible we have pushed Christ out the back door.

How much of your life is spent in cultivating your relationship with Jesus?
How often do you put what He wants of you first?  There are consequences for not doing so.  Frustration, anger, depression, irritation, sadness, are some of the negative effects, but so is a false sense of happiness and joy at the wrong things in this world.

God won't do things for you that will drive you away from Him.  You and I need to be careful that we aren't driving ourselves away from Him because of our wants and desires and our selfishness.
