Looking for that Day as God looks for that Person

Looking for that Day as God looks for that Person

2 Peter 3:1-18 NASB "Beloved, this is now the second letter I am writing to you in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of a reminder, to remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles. Know this first of all, that in the last days mockers will come with their mocking, following after their own lusts, and saying, “Where is the promise of His coming? For ever since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue just as they were from the beginning of creation.” For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed by being flooded with water. But by His word the present heavens and earth are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.

But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be discovered.

Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.

Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found spotless and blameless by Him, at peace, and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which there are some things that are hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unscrupulous people and lose your own firm commitment, but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen."

In your speech and conduct are you at all looking for the day the Lord returns?

Are you aware at all of the fact there's 1 person that God is looking for?

Jesus won't return until the last person to be saved in this age of the Gentiles has been saved.

The Church age it is also called ought to be the Church likewise seeking to save the lost in order to find this person.

While entertainment of every kind can be enjoyable, from sports to movies, if it's your source of joy and not your walk with Jesus in search of this person with Him, your priorities are messed up.

God's adversary loves to use distractions to keep people from the truth of God.

Look again at the beginning of this chapter in 2nd Peter.  "Beloved, this is now the second letter I am writing to you in which I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of a reminder, to remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles.".

If these people, of whom never had the level of distractions we do required reminders, of what manor of person ought we to be?

My new Supervisor and I shared some thoughts yesterday. Our minds are on such information overload that without apps on a device or notebooks to write in, we cannot keep up with life.

The reminder to each of us is this: REMEMBER WHY YOU ARE HERE!!!

We are NOT here to be entertained.

We are NOT here to find all peace and joy.

We are NOT here to look for what benefits our own desires.

We are here in this moment in the limited centuries God has ordained this planet Earth to seek and save the lost.

We live in a time when so many organizations try to tell us what to do, where to go, how to out spend our income, who to hate, who to love, who to this who to that.

We live in a time where exercising your faith, when it conflicts with these worldly organizations, will land you in jail. Satan will use every avenue at his disposal to shut up and shut down Christians because HE DOESN'T WANT THAT LAST PERSON TO BE FOUND.

He knows your Bible better than you do.

He deceives. He is THE Liar and Father of Lies. And we who are in Christ are SUPPOSED to be alert, watching for his schemes. Yet we mostly are not. Yet again we don't see because we are not looking.  We are sucked into his lies and Iive out lives that are not what God wants.

We look for how we can have our own slice of Heaven here on Earth instead.

We look for enjoyment in fitting in with the world rather than being examples of true Children of God.  We go along with the crowd in hating people for their stance in something as stupid as a sports team.  Hate in any form has no place in the lives of those in the body of Christ when it is not the things that God hates.  You show your sin nature for all the world to see when you participate in such things.

By way of reminder.  By way of reminder.  Peter, and Paul, used these similar phrases.

We need reminding!  When we absently adopt ideals into our lives and perpetuate them through generations and do not filter them through God's Word, then yes we need reminding today!

Are you living for Jesus or you? Don't stop to think about it, answer now!

Are you putting living for Jesus as your priority or not?

Have you exercised hatred IN ANY FORM for ANYTHING that wasn't Biblically based?

There's no joking about hatred, no joking about the wages of sin.

There's nobody laughing in Hell.  We are here in this time to seek out people who are to be saved. It's the same mission of Jesus in His Earthly ministry. We are here first and foremost for that reason.  Not for our own personal sake.

We need reminding that the Tribulation is coming.

We need reminding that billions will die in it. Revelation starts the numbers at 1/3rd of mankind.  8  billion or so on the planet now, you do the math.

We need reminding to be Holy as He is Holy.

We need reminding that our lives are not our own, we were bought with a price.

We need reminding to take care of one another in Christ Jesus.

We need reminding to bear one another’s burdens.

We need reminding for the same reasons the early Church needed them.

We need reminded of this too:

We can either help Jesus in saving people, thus finding that last one to be saved in this Church age, or we are helping the enemy of God in his quest to delay it.

We can remember why we are here or we can do as the rest of the world and be blinded by the god of this world. We can either show ourselves faithful to God or faithful to ourselves.

God's priority is to be ours. It's been convicting to me.  To see how I have spent my life, honestly, I am ashamed at my personal choices because quite frankly they are or were self-centered. Not God-centered.

By way of reminder..."to remember the words spoken beforehand by the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken by your apostles."
