Peace Be Still

Peace Be Still
by David Brenneman

"I don't want to be afraid
Every time I face the waves
I don't want to be afraid
I don't want to be afraid
I don't want to fear the storm
Just because I hear it roar
I don't want to fear the storm
I don't want to fear the storm
Peace be still
Say the word and I will
Set my feet upon the sea
Till I'm dancing in the deep
Peace be still
You are here so it is well
Even when my eyes can't see
I will trust the voice that speaks
I'm not gonna be afraid
'Cause these waves are only waves
I'm not gonna be afraid
I'm not gonna be afraid
I'm not gonna fear the storm
You are greater than it's roar
I'm not gonna fear the storm
I'm not gonna fear at all
Peace be still
Say the word and I will
Set my feet upon the sea
Till I'm dancing in the deep
Peace be still
You are here so it is well
Even when my eyes can't see
I will trust the voice that speaks
Peace peace over me
Let faith rise up
Oh heart believe
Let faith rise up in me
Let faith rise up
Oh heart believe
Let faith rise up in me
Let faith rise up
Oh heart believe
Let faith rise up in me
Let faith rise up" - "Peace Be Still" - Mia Fieldes / Andrew Holt / Hope Darst

Was reading in 1 Samuel this morning and it was to do with David killing Goliath. Peace was missing in Israel because King Saul was no longer blessed of God.

Peace can be missing from our lives for more than that one reason.   Was skimming posts of others this morning and one such post had a synopsis of each of the 12 Disciples and how they lived in this world until they died.  Most were executed.  Their lives, from the outside, looked like they lacked peace, but they did not.

Our lives can look like they lack peace.  Jesus said HIS peace He leaves with us. Not as the world gives it.

Yet oh so many millions of people are trying out their own ideas on what is acceptable peace to them rather than to sit at the feet of Jesus to discover His peace.

His peace isn't the absence of problems.
In fact He said that in this world we would have tribulations, but to be of good cheer because He has overcome the world.

We read from Paul that the natural, or unsaved, person cannot understand the things of God because they are foreign to them...because they are Spiritually discerned.  You cannot understand if you are not connected to the Spirit.  You cannot get it if you aren't saved.

We spend millions in our lifetimes trying to create our idea of peace.  We buy vacations, buy houses, buy cars, go to this restaurant or that. Buy things, buy clothing, and whatever catches our eye in order to create peace on Earth.  We look towards status in society as being more important than our standing before Jesus.

We are all guilty of this.  We all fight the battle of doing what is right in our own eyes versus doing what is right in God's eyes.  It's the battle that's raged since Adam and Eve.

Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you.  Seeking what Jesus wants over what we want.  Ignoring the desires of this world.

Satan WANTS you and I to waste our time on the desires of this world so that we don't spend quality time with God.   Lean into that.

We are either going to follow after the world or follow after Jesus. Lean into that.

We often don't associate problems in this world with warfare concerning our souls but that's exactly what it is.

Satan's only interested in his own business.  He's only after setting up his kingdom here on Earth and wants the kingdom of God as his own.  Lean into that.

Satan's NOT interested in anything you have to offer if it's not helping him.  His goals are never changing. He wants Believers to shut up and sit out life. He wants those not yet saved by the grace of God to do whatever he's permitted to do by God's permission.  These things rob people of the peace of Christ Jesus.

When we take our focus off of Jesus it means it's somewhere else.

Peter took his eyes off Jesus and he  began to sink.  A profound but simple lesson that's captured in the words of that song.  Storms raged in Israel and David saw right through it to God's deliverance.
Saul could not see because what was happening was Spiritually discerned.  There's that passage in living color.

When King David took his eyes off obedience to God, temptation walked right in and he sinned with Bathsheba.  When his eyes stayed true to the Lord Jesus his paths stayed straight.

Our lives are never ever promised to be trouble free. We are promised by Jesus that He would never leave us or forsake us. We wouldn't face the storm alone.

You're possibly going through storms. Maybe one after another.  Jesus today is the same Jesus as when He walked the Earth at its creation. He's the same Jesus as was born in Bethlehem. He's the same Jesus as was crucified and killed on a cross. He's the same Jesus as the one who resurrected from the dead.  He's the same Jesus who left His Spirit here until the work of God is accomplished in each of us until His return. He's the same Jesus who sits at the right hand of the Father interceding on our behalf.  He's the same Jesus. He's the same yesterday, today and forever.  He's that same Jesus who is the man of sorrows, well acquainted with grief. He's no stranger to everything we will face in life.  He's lived a perfect life, died a horrific death, came back to life, for you so that you would have life in Him.

His peace He brings to us.  His love never has left us.  When we don't feel Him it's indeed because He's carrying us.  The world cannot understand these things until the world comes to Him for salvation.  THEN the light dawns and then the world will see the undeniable truth found in Christ Jesus.

His peace makes life possible in ways we won't understand.  His plans for us aren't what we think they ought to be because they are Spiritually discerned.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.
